The Pony Team

Hafdre Adam

Adam to a bit longer to become part of the team, always in a hurry, determined to get there where ever.

Hafdre Andi

Andi works hard, is shy, doesn't want to be noticed, only let's Rowena catch him in the field. Just gets on with pulling the carriage on his own if necessary.

Hafdre Ben

Ben, the leader of the team, the most intelligent of them all, inclined to be lazy unless we are going fast!

Brolawen Sioni known as Boni

Boni, takes Bwrw's place in the team when we want more speed, always having a bad hair day! Will go as fast as possible in any direction as long as it's not sharp left.

Hafdre Bwrw

Bwrw, partner to Ben in the lead of the team. the only thing on his mind is food and has been known to put his head down to graze at the halt in the middle of the dressage phase.

National Championship success

Making dreams come true...

It began in January 2013. I owned a young pair of Welsh Sec C ponies, Zu and Zila, which had been broken to drive, but were very inexperienced. I had a very busy job that involved a lot of international travel and was looking for someone who would produce the ponies for driving trials and, most importantly, teach me how to drive them. The long-term goal was to try tandem.

Rowena rose to the challenge and it was the start of seven fun filled years with South Wales Carriage Driving Centre (SWCDC).

Zu and Zila, although full brother and sister, were like chalk and cheese. Zu was tense and highly strung, trying to do everything on his own at 100 miles an hour. Zila was much more laid back and quite happy for her brother to do all the work….

Customer testimonials

I have had an outstanding four days training with Rowena Moyse at the South Wales Carriage Driving Centre. Rowena is an inspiring teacher, encouraging me to achieve far more than I expected. Over four days I have driven 3 different pairs of ponies several times and a single pony. I have also been on the back of the carriage to watch 3 different pairs in training.

The excellent facilities meant that I was able to drive cones and obstacles on flat fields and schooling areas and also try more challenging tracks. I was also able to drive out on quiet roads and tracks. With this variety of experience it was clearly possible to see my development over four days.

Rowena and her team are friendly and encouraging and did everything they could to make sure I had a good experience.

Jenny Adams

A day i wont forget in a hurry it was very different from the start to the end. we learnt how to harness up and then we had a drive and held the reins(all be it with dual controls) they then took us out in the beautiful Gower countryside for a drive with a pair of horses before giving us a light lunch out in the sunshine, then we had another go at driving and before we knew it it was time to go but we will be back. would highly recommend a day of driving to anyone who likes horses its great fun.

Peter

Brilliant instructor to people of all abilities, an intellectually challenged pupil inspired to a lifetime love of carriage driving and to compete and win at differing disciplines. She is simply the best.

Penny Hopkins

Rowena is an exceptional teacher and has the unique talent of taking a task and breaking it down into a language taylored to the individual so they can understand and she constantly invents new ways to help the student understand and achieve what is being asked, be this by using different ways of explaining it or inventing exercises to help illustrate it. Rowena is quick to size up your strengths and use them to help you with things you might find a challenge. I have learnt a great deal in the few months I have been driving with South Wales Carriage Driving Centre and I always look forward to my next visit and what challenges I will encounter and the knowledge I will gain from driving and just generally being around and observing what is going on. The horses are all lovely ,the staff are amazing and always a friendly greeting from the dogs.
